In South Texas, underserved communities face mounting challenges in accessing quality medical care. And with a shortage of specialists across many areas of medicine, long wait times and untreated conditions are all too common. TEAM was created to help address this problem by training future generations of specialists across several medical disciplines.

What We’ve Accomplished

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, Sight for South Texas reached its Phase 1 fundraising goal—setting the stage for a historic transformation in vision care, education, and service across South Texas.

This momentum made it possible to launch the Ophthalmology Residency Program, recruit world-class faculty, secure ACGME submission, and begin development of the Mein Eye Institute at Brooks City Base—our flagship hub for clinical care, education, and innovation.

So far, we’ve achieved:

  • Established program headquarters at the TEAM Mein Eye Institute, Brooks City Base (San Antonio)

  • Recruited physician faculty and clinical rotation sites

  • Welcomed our first Ophthalmology Resident (PGY-1, July 2025)
