Ophthalmology Residency Program

The Ophthalmology Residency Program at the Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (TIGMER) is an active, ACGME-accredited program built to train the next generation of physician leaders while expanding access to advanced eye care throughout South Texas. The program welcomed its first PGY-1 resident in July 2025, and advanced PGY-2 training in July 2026.

Built with intention and innovation, our program offers a dynamic, comprehensive training experience across the full spectrum of ophthalmology.

At TIGMER, residents benefit from:

  • Robust clinical exposure across diverse patient populations

  • Early and progressive surgical training with dedicated faculty mentorship

  • Integrated academic and research opportunities that foster critical thinking and scholarly growth

  • A collaborative, multidisciplinary environment focused on delivering exceptional, patient-centered care

Through physician training, clinical partnerships, and academic leadership, TEAM is creating a pipeline of ophthalmologists equipped to serve South Texas with skill, compassion, and innovation. Our curriculum is designed to develop confident, skilled ophthalmologists who are prepared to lead – whether in private practice, academic medicine, or healthcare systems innovation.

The TIGMER Ophthalmology Residency Program participates in the SF Match. We are listed as TEAM/TIGMER Ophthalmology Residency Program PR11985
